What the scholarship may provide

ARISE is designed to provide comprehensive support consistent with program guidelines. Proposed support includes full tuition and fees, an annual stipend, and allowances for books, supplies, professional travel including the SFS Job Fair, and cybersecurity certification preparation.

Scholarships may be provided for up to three years, depending on academic level at entry and pathway structure.

The pathway is designed for eligible undergraduate, accelerated BS-MS, and master’s students.

How to build a strong application

Show clear motivation

Explain why cybersecurity and public service matter to you, what experiences shaped your interest, and how ARISE fits your academic and career goals.

Highlight relevant preparation

Include coursework, projects, labs, research, certifications, internships, competitions, or other technical experiences that demonstrate readiness for the program.

Write professionally

Use clear, concise, and professional language. Organize your materials carefully, proofread thoroughly, and present a thoughtful case for your fit and readiness.

Application and review steps

Step 1: Confirm eligibility and fit

Review the eligibility requirements and program expectations to determine whether ARISE matches your academic background, class standing, GPA, and public-service career interests.

Step 2: Prepare your materials

Gather your transcript, résumé, and statement of interest early so you have time to revise and strengthen your application.

Step 3: Submit a complete application

Submit a polished, accurate, and complete application that reflects your preparation, motivation, and interest in cybersecurity-related public service.

Step 4: Faculty evaluation

Applications are expected to be reviewed by program leadership and faculty using criteria such as academic performance, technical preparation, communication skills, and potential for success.

Step 5: Interview, if invited

Some applicants may be invited for interviews to help assess communication, professionalism, and readiness for a rigorous scholarship-for-service pathway.

Step 6: Final selection and eligibility verification

Final selection is expected to confirm compliance with SFS eligibility requirements, including citizenship, academic standing, and pathway alignment.

Important consideration: ARISE is a scholarship-for-service program, not a general scholarship alone. Scholars are required to complete one year of full-time employment in a qualifying government cybersecurity position for each year of scholarship support received. Internship participation is part of the pathway, and inability to complete the required service may result in a repayment obligation similar to a student loan.
